For the sake of argument, let's say the following is true:
1) Reincarnation is real.
2) Time is not actually linear; we are simply stuck in a linear timeline during this particular life.
Therefore...
3) Not all of our "past" lives are actually from the linear past -- some are actually from what we consider the future.
And if...
4) Sometimes we remember past lives, even if we don't realize it.
...and...
5) At least some of the inspiration we get for our art and writing stems from past life memories.
Then...
Star Trek COULD be based on a real future we can look forward to!
