Bragging

I realized only today that I stink at telling you all what I've done as a writer. I'm not very good at bragging or talking about myself -- I prefer to let my writing speak for me -- but with querying lately, I've needed to update my bio, and in doing so I realized I really have done quite a lot!

So here it is! All of the writing-related things I have done in my life so far. (Note that almost the entire timeline I am raising my children, still writing things here and there, and reading a LOT. Especially during long breaks between dates.)

1984: (Age 6): Decided I wanted to be an author. (I asked my mother what people who write stories are called. She said "author" and I decided right then and there that's what I wanted to do!)

1986: (Age 8): Began writing my very first series, "Lucille and Benji".

1991: (Age 13): Decided I wanted to earn a Newberry Award.

1993: (Age 16): Completed my first full book, The Journey Through Zjanine. (You won't find this on any shelves, as it was never published.)

1995: (Age 17): First publication in the local newspaper, "The Spokesman Review". (A review on C.S. Lewis' entire Narnia series.)

1997: (Age 19): Completed Winter under the pen name J.C. Lynn. (This was also never published.)

1999: (Age 20): First full book publication, The Veiling Society, under the pen name J.C. Lynn. (This was self-published before Amazon existed.)

2004 ~ 2009: Attended Union University, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Film.

2011: Completed Song of Spirit under the pen name J.C. Lynn.

2010 ~ 2012: Earned my Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults through the Vermont School of Fine Arts.

2011: Completed the first draft of Dr. Fixit's Malicious Machine, my first professional-level manuscript.

2012: Began teaching workshops in writing for kids for Spocon, my local writing convention.

2012: Completed the first draft of The Counterfeit Zombies of Noc.

2013: Began working in the literary and sci-fi conventions circuit.

2013: Published the final drafts of Dr. Fixit's Malicious Machine and The Counterfeit Zombies of Noc under the pen name Jessica Rising. (Both have since been republished under my legal name.)

2014: Wrote and published Tipani Walker and the Nightmare Knot.

2015: Began taking charge of literary tracks at Spocon.

2016: In charge of the local literature track at Sasquan, the 73rd World Science Fiction Convention.

2022: Taught writing classes for kids at Emerald City Comicon in Seattle.

2023: Began writing The Diminutive Defenders of Num.

2023: Began writing Petra's Playlist.

2024: Completed Petra's Playlist.

2025: Published The Diminutive Defenders of Num.

I'm not sure if I got everything, but this is everything I remember. Some dates may also be a bit off due to my inability to remember dates, and I have added a few pictures as well.

See ya again soon!

Not sure when this was -- no date.
